Cleat
Our Cupola mounting cleat is an attachment point from inside the cupola, made from sturdy 2x4, 2x6 or 2x8 materials. Size
of the cleat is determined by the size of the cupola and ventilation needs. This cleat typically runs with the pitch
cut out on the inside of the base section. This option is typically used for fitting the cupola over existing shingles.
Curb
The optional Cupola mounting curb is a 2x8 structure that would be mounted before the roof is to be shingled. The curb is
then flashed by the roofer, allowing the cupola to be mounted later, therefore not holding up the roofers. The cupola
then slides over the top of the flashed curb and is bolted to the curbing producing a strong watertight seal.
Light Kit
The Cupola light kit option includes a mirror that is mounted on the underside of the roof section inside the cupola. As well as a metal connection box and outdoor lighting receptacle. We recommend using a compact fluorescent bulb 60w equivalent for there long life and low cost lighting. When the light is on it reflects off the mirror mounted inside the cupola and illuminates the cupola evenly.
Way To Unload
This question is referring to a forklift or some other way of unloading a crate. Our cupolas are packaged in a strong wooden crate for protection and usually are too heavy to lift by hand from the truck. If you select no, we will send a truck with a lift gate to lower your cupola for you. This will affect your shipping cost.
Ventilating and non ventilating
This question refers to whether the customer will cut a hole in their roof to allow for ventilation. Either way,
the louvers on the cupolas will be open. But, we resize the mounting cleat or curb to accommodate the airflow or lack of.
This also helps us to determine the best type of mounting hardware for an easy installation.
Roof Pitch
This question refers to the pitch of the roof where the cupola will be placed. This will be pre-fabricated into the
cupola base section to create an exact fit onto the existing roof slope.
Standard gable
A standard gable would be a straight ridge line roof with gable ends. The cupola to fit this style roof would have
two triangle pitch cuts on opposite sides.
Hip roof
A hip roof would have any number of sides (4, 6, 8) that travel up to a point. In this case, we would not cut a
pitch in the cupola base but would mount the cleats on the specified pitch to match the roof.
Finish
Our PVC finish has a slight wood grain texture and is our most popular cupola finish. Smooth is a baked enamel finish that is smooth to the touch.
